SIMPLE SIMON
The One-Off Pantomine Society
Kinson Community Centre Pelhams, Kinson January 2006
On a bitterly cold January night this unusual panto filled you with a warm feeling. Although no one was overburdened with expertise that simply didn’t matter. The feel-good assault eclipsed all else.
Sara Thornton is to be congratulated on a witty, fun and pun packed script, and Colin Petheram, although he was a one man band managed to sound like a full pit orchestra. There was plenty of community singing and the audience joined in with gusto until Mr. Petheram pulled a Les Dawson on us, forcing the singing to dissolve into giggles.
The costumes were mostly primary colours, making it visually bright and cheering, and what scenery there was , was well devised and executed. The carousel idea worked particularly well. If the community centre itself could one day replace those dreadful curtains I am sure every subsequent user would bless them.
The children ranged in age from 2 to 15, and filled the stage admirably, contributing towards the ”Ahh” factor. There has obviously been a huge amount of work put in by the whole company and it shows. I am sure the rest of the audience, like me, came away with a mental central heating that banished the cold.
