THE PARAGON
K.C.A. Players
Kinson Community Centre
Kinson, Bournemouth
November 2005

THE Paragon is a play of strong emotions and situations. Written by father and son team, Roland and Michael Pertwee, it deals with a father and son relationship set in 1946.
Without giving too much of the plot away, as it has many twists and turns, Sir Robert Rawley is preparing to erect a monument to his son who was killed in the war. Supported by his second wife, Joan (Joan Ogden) and with the arrival of his daughter-in-law Angela (Jan Watton) and the Unknown Man, nicely played by Pete Griffiths, much is revealed of the truth about his son.
David Wickham expertly played the blind Sir Robert Rawley with his changing emotions and there was a lovely cameo from Jean Gell as the dotty Aunt Jessica and her psychical visitation of “Big Sitting Bull”.
Steve Watton’s production gave us a flavour of the period but there needed to be a little more attention to detail in some of the props and costumes as well as more emotion from the ladies of the cast.
Although the play lacked tension to begin with, not helped by some prompts, it gained momentum and culminated in the well-staged and highly charged final scene.
