FOR YOUR PLEASURE
Ranger School of Dance
Mowlen Theatre
Swanage
November 2005

THIS production was sold out within days of the tickets going on sale, and those lucky people who saw it will be in no doubt that those House Full signs were well deserved.
There were 240 pupils taking part, from 3 year-olds to mature adults, with the average age probably around mid teens. But whatever their ages, they gave 150% commitment in every number, and discipline was second-to-none. The standard of dance, as ever with this school, was outstanding, thanks to teachers June & Caroline Ranger and Viki Slack. And wonderful costumes and super lighting effects added those all-important extra touches.
In an evening full of variety and with a liberal sprinkling of comedy, the audience was treated to ballet – La Fille Mal Gardee, Billy The Kid, La Bayadere, Paquita – jazz dance, with numbers from The Blues Brothers, Austin Powers and Sister Act, and Irish dancing that simply brought the house down.
Whatever the style of dance, the performers gave the impression that it was totally effortless. In fact, they had been rehearsing for months and the sheer logistics of putting on a show of this scale means that such an event only takes place every few years. I’d advise you to watch out for the next one.
