CINDERELLA
Highcliffe Charity Players
Regent Centre
Christchurch
January 2006

THAT scourge of modern theatrical performances, the mobile phone, makes its presence strongly felt during this panto - but there's no cause for annoyance, as it's all part of the plot.
The fairy godmother, Dot (a wonderfully vivacious Valerie Gillard), is employed by fairygodmothers dot com, and her bosses are in regular phone contact to ensure that all goes to plan and Cinderella (a bubbly, very likeable Carli Barrington) really does go to the ball and get her prince.
She does, of course, so Dot passes her test with an A grade. I'd actually give her an A*, as I would to the rest of the company as well, especially director Tracey Barrington, because panto really doesn't get any better than this.
There's an appealing Buttons (Stuart Tizzard), a delightful Baron Hardup (David Gillard), the ugliest of sisters (Martin Mansfield & David Coward) and a smashing Prince Charming (Shelley Gould), plus great performances too from Dandini (Jane Melling), the Brokers Men (Matthew Smith & Mark Weldon) and a lively chorus.
They can all sing and act superbly, and when you add costumes that are simply out of this world and Ian Carter's excellent band - well, those lovely fizzing fireworks at the end just say it all.
