SPRING GALA CONCERT
Silhouette Opera Company
St Andrew's Church Hall Bennett Road, Bournemouth (And other venues) April/May 2005
JON and Victoria Andrew’s concerts to raise money for charity – this time The Lord’s Taverners, Julia’s House, Jigsaw Appeal and Tenovus – are totally unique and rightly becoming something of a legend, thanks to their incredibly high standard.
Mostly comprising Jon’s pupils both past and present, those taking part range from teenagers who may well be the stars of tomorrow to those who are already well-known – this particular concert included Amici Forever’s David Habbin among its soloists.
The evening, which was presented by David Gillard with musical direction by Colin Billing, had highlights galore, including Amor ti Vieta (Fedora) sung not by one tenor, but three – Jon Andrew, Marcus Marriott & David Habbin; Hannah Pedley’s glorious E sgombo il loco (Anna Bolena); Tracey Barrington & Marcus Marriott’s Tosca Duet; Jonathan Prentice’s Nemico della patria (Andrea Chenier); Lorraine Rowan’s Jewel Song (Faust); David’s Nessun Dorma. And then there was Craig Dimmock’s ballet solo to Strauss’ Wine, Women and Song, and a superb Phantom of the Opera medley from members of Big Little Theatre School, plus much more besides.
It was, as always, outstanding, and mere words cannot do justice to the amount of enjoyment these concerts generate. Bournemouth is so privileged to have such a group on its doorstep.
