ROBIN HOOD & THE BABES IN THE WOOD
Highcliffe Charity Players
Regent Centre Christchurch January 2005
This show is what Panto is supposed to be. Knock your eye out costumes, dazzling performances, super scenery, laughs, baddies, goodies and some serious oomph from the orchestra pit, courtesy of Ian Carter.
This is Highcliffe Charity Players, of course, so it comes as no surprise. Their performances are consistently high octane, as demonstrated by this merry romp through the greenwood.
Right from curtain up it takes off like a rocket, with Beelzebub (David Coward) in the driving seat, Robin Hood (Georgina Smith) and Maid Marion (Yvonne Loader) are both seasoned performers strutting their stuff, and the two children (Charlotte Starr and Ellie Mansfield ) came over clear and confident. Will Scarlet, (Pete Whitaker) Friar Tuck (David Gillard) and Little John (Max White) were stoic and endearing, and we were all delighted when the Sheriff(Mike Young) got his comeuppance with the aid of the Fairy’s (Michele Moulin) dust.
The dancers were exuberant, and there was plenty of sound from the chorus. The cast seemed to enjoy it as much as the audience, making it truly a treat for old and young.
