IN THE SPOTLIGHT '05 The Legends
Big Little Theatre School
The Pavilion Bournemouth July 2005
THAT BLTS secret has worked its magic again. This year’s show, a tribute to the legends of music, stage & screen, took the school in a new, challenging direction – and it was, I believe, the best yet.
Fantastic dance routines, great singing, slick entrances & exits and masses of stage presence were the order of the day. Pop – Michael Jackson, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Beach Boys, Beatles, Cliff Richard, Elton John, Dusty Springfield, Elvis Presley & Motown – rubbed shoulders with the likes of Barbra Streisand, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jnr., Nat King Cole & James Bond. And, to show everyone’s versatility even more, there were also excerpts from Carmina Burana and Carmen.
Each of the 120 youngsters (aged between 8 and 18) on stage put every ounce of energy into their performance, and the result was breathtaking. Excellent lighting, effects, set, costumes and band all played their part, of course. But the production team – Chrissy Wickham (director & choreographer), Colin Billing (musical supervisor) and Marcus Marriott (musical director) – set a tremendously high standard that these exceptionally talented youngsters had no trouble in reaching.
Talent? They’re full of it, and as the final number said – Nobody Does It Better.
