WAIT UNTIL DARK
Bournemouth Little Theatre Club
Bournemouth Little Theatre
Jameson Road, Winton
June 2004

TO play a blind person convincingly, particularly when it comes to suppressing the natural urge to look at your fellow performers as they speak, must be incredibly difficult. So full marks to Tess Hutton for being utterly believable as Susy, the terror-struck central character in this gripping psychological thriller, which is skilfully directed by Don Cherrett.
Both Tess, the rest of an excellent cast and some fine lighting effects build up the play’s rising tension well, ensuring that the audience are at the edges of their seats as the denouement approaches.
And a finer trio of villains than those played by Mark Lange (Mike), Ben Feiner (Croker) and Peter Beebee (Roat) would be difficult to imagine. Each in his own way is frighteningly sinister and Peter’s character, in particular, is definitely not one you would wish to meet in the dark – or the light, for that matter.
Especially impressive too is Kirstie Rogers as Gloria, a 12 year-old neighbour who has taken the drug-filled doll that the crooks want so badly. She plays her part in a totally natural and unaffected way that suggests a bright future ahead of her. Wait Until Dark runs until Saturday.
