RELATIVELY SPEAKING
Broadstone Players
War Memorial Hall
Broadstone
November 2003

THE four-strong cast of this excellent comedy was a powerful blend of youth and experience, with long-established performers John Pemble and Lyn Richell joined by outstanding newcomers Owen Thomas and Beverley Beck. The result was one of those rare evenings in the theatre when all the ingredients gelled together to provide a really first-class entertainment.
The action of the play takes place on a summer Sunday when Ginny (Beverley) goes to the country to break off a relationship with her former boss, Philip (John), who is married to Sheila (Lyn). But Ginny has told her boyfriend, Greg (Owen), that she is visiting her parents – so when he innocently turns up unexpectedly, confusion reigns supreme.
It was a real joy to watch such a well-performed and brilliantly timed piece where every line came over loud and clear and was spoken with such feeling. Every nuance of Alan Ayckbourn’s script was brought triumphantly to life and it was little wonder that the audience laughed long and loud.
Props and set were superb too, and full marks to whoever was responsible for changing the first act scenes in an amazingly short space of time and with no obvious sound whatever.
