Broadstone Players War Memorial Hall Broadstone September 2003 The evening’s four plays could not have been more different: Last Post, by Jean McConnell, a two-hander about deception; Tea, Set and Match, by local playwright Sean Street, a cleverly constructed conversation between two point-scoring Welsh ladies, overseen by an ‘umpire’; harrowing excerpts from Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, and the comic, quirky Committed, by Players’ member James Cooke. The long-standing members set a high standard that was reached by everyone involved – proof, if it were needed, of what even inexperienced performers and directors can achieve with teamwork. It was particularly satisfying to see that those of last year’s first-timers who took part once more have gained tremendously in confidence, and every one of the brand-new members showed considerable potential that augurs well for the future of the Players.
