WHEN a musical is not often performed there’s usually a very good reason why, and despite RMDS’ best efforts the flaws in Mame’s structure are all too apparent in this production.
The story – oddball New York socialite suddenly finds herself responsible for the upbringing of her orphaned nephew, Patrick – is fine but there are too many over-long scenes between numbers, and the show tends to drag more than a little.

Young David Minge, (subs - accent on the ‘e’ please) who shares the role of the child Patrick with Ali Bennett, is a real find – confident and strong-voiced, while Tom Perren as his adult counterpoint also makes a good impression.
Suzy Collins is wonderfully humorous as Agnes Gooch, there are particularly memorable cameos from Dave Wischhusen (Beauregard Burnside) and Rosemary Guy (Mother Burnside), and chorus work and choreography is strong – but...
