Poole & Parkstone Musical Theatre Society Lighthouse Poole November 2003 Each year P&P hit the heights, and, although it seems they just could not be better than they already are, they strive even higher. And the secret is, quite simply, dedication, attention to detail and a refusal to settle for second best. The content, always fresh and exciting, this year spanned the spectrum from show music – Oklahoma, Godspell, South Pacific, Witches of Eastwick, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bombay Dreams and more – to jazz, rock, opera and comedy numbers. Costumes – and there were many changes – were thoughtfully put together right down to the last sequin and shoelace, the four-piece band was excellent and lighting effects spectacular. Without question gold stars should be awarded to director Joanne Chapman and musical director John Stringer, but also to all 61 people who took part. Singing was sublime, every dance step spot on, every hand movement carefully considered and, with the very slightest of exceptions, each individual gave us the ‘old razzle dazzle’ as if their lives depended on it. They’re unbeatable. Linda Kirkman Courtesy of the Bournemouth Daily Echo |
