Ringwood Musical and Dramatic Socity Greyfriars Ringwood July 2004 The format – three separate shows with interval buffet – works like a dream, and it never ceases to amaze me how inventive the directors are when it comes to original ideas. Pastimes, directed by Denise Rosewell, was cleverly set as a Monopoly Board, and as the dice landed on the various London locations we were treated to appropriate numbers ranging from Music Hall songs to showstoppers. Suzy Collins’ Happy Times more than lived up to its title, although Fun Times would have been just as appropriate. Those of us near the front were squirted with water – and also found ourselves in prime position for a glorious Full Monty sketch that produced more than a little barracking from a highly appreciative audience. Jane Howell’s Night Times was the most dance-oriented and undoubtedly the most glamorous, and although the in-the-round setting did not entirely work – much was still played to the front – the star-lit set was a joy. And, as ever, the entire evening was full of tremendous energy and enthusiasm - and a huge amount of talent. Linda Kirkman Courtesy of the Bournemouth Daily Echo |
