The Angel Players Holy Angels Church Hall, Lilliput Poole November 2002 ![]() Who needs Hamlet? Eight bodies strewn across the stage at the curtain call of Norman Robbins' macabre comedy equal the Bard's corpse count. In the crimson-walled library of Monument House the Addams-esque Tomb family meets to hear the will of their late unlamented father. Toga-clad Marcus (Stuart Turvey), eloquently declaiming Shakespeare's Caesar, irascible Lucien (Richard Harries Jones), butch Emily (Lesley Gannon), twittery Dora (Jenny Davidson) wearing a wonderful iridescent black boa, and sex-mad Monica (Suzie Panton) are all tinged with murderous madness. Unseen werewolf Oliver howls in the cellar. Into this assortment of astutely cast characters come Ron Kite and Barbara McKeown as Peregrine and Freda. The twists in the plot confused even the cast at times - shooting, poisoning, stabbing and strangling variously dispatched most of them. ![]() Nick Panton, who also played sinister solicitor Penworthy, adroitly produced the play. Moments to savour included the dagger in his bloodstained back, the haughty humour of Chris Andrews' haughty housekeeper Agatha and Peregrine's red-and-black striped satin underpants. A long-winded denouement speech by stolid Nurse Ann (Vicki Sippitt) explained the plot. An unlikely tale well represented by admirably uninhibited actors!
