REPRISE
Poole & Parkstone Musical Theatre Society “The Choir”,
Barrington Theatre,
Ferndown
June 2003

P&P has long had a reputation for the excellence of its annual concerts, and it is one that the company’s newer group has quickly come to emulate.
In the five years since its inception The Choir has simply got better and better in every way, thanks to musical director Jean Chambers, accompanist Mary Potter and the obvious hard work of the members.
Female voices outnumber male by some considerable amount yet vocally the group is well balanced, producing an impressive, quality sound with plenty of light and shade and coping easily with an eclectic range of music from Half A Sixpence and Bohemian Rhapsody to Adiemus and The Rhythm of Life. They didn’t use mikes either, yet I could hear every word clearly.
Best of all, matching costumes and superb lighting effects added class and everyone appeared to be enjoying every moment. And tiered staging, used for the first time this year, ensured that everyone could be seen. Unfortunately it also meant that a bottle of water that had inexplicably been brought on stage took pride of place on the top tier throughout the second half, rather spoiling the overall effect.
But, glinting bottles apart, this was a hugely enjoyable evening. Encore.
