OUR SHOW
Ferndown Community Association
Barrington Theatre,
Ferndown
July 2003

THIS concert was a mixture of song, dance, comedy and a little magic. The performers, all affiliated to the FCA, were Wessex Accordion Band, One-Off Pantomime Society, Ferndown Dance Centre’s Jazz Team, Verwood Dance Academy, West Moors Singers, The Optic Band, Ferndown Phoenix Musical Society and several soloists.
With musical numbers such as the Radetsky March, Apache, Mr Bo Jangles and Cabaret, as well as juggling, disappearing milk and ‘lap dancers’, variety was certainly the name of the game. The programme’s promise was fulfilled on many occasions, but at over three hours’ duration the evening was way too long. It did not help that there were several prolonged delays between scenes but the main problem was that there did not appear to have been any prior dress rehearsal to time the show, co-ordinate continuity and iron out any potential problems.
The concept of the evening is a good one and there is undoubtedly talent among the performers involved, but if the purpose is to show off that talent then I feel the FCA needs to exert far more control over the finished product than was obvious on this occasion. As my school reports so often used to say – could do better.
