Unison THeatrical Choir Barrington Theatre Ferndown June 2003 Excellent use was made of the stage, with well-placed groupings and simple but effective movement. Additionally, the set, changed for each section, was stylish and the costumes, especially in the Coward section, were stunning. The company is noticeably enthusiastic and there were several enjoyable numbers, not least the haunting Twentieth Century Blues, a highly amusing Honey Bun and lovely renditions of The Sun Whose Rays and Love Changes Everything. However, in other instances, enthusiasm was not always equalled by performance, and the Coward section, in particular, was marred by too-loud stage ‘whispers’ that should really have been in mime only. And vocally the company was at its best when singing in unison, seeming to find harmonies difficult, while soloists, with a few notable exceptions, lacked the technique to present numbers to their best advantage. But with so much enthusiasm and dedication in the company I am sure that a few intensive singing and presentation workshops would work wonders. Linda Kirkman Courtesy of the Bournemouth Daily Echo. |
