St Luke's Players St Luke's Hall, Winton Bournemouth November 2002 If your idea of a good evening at the theatre is to be scared out of your wits then this would have been the play for you, as it came with an all too effective exploding wood-burning stove, sinister music, mysterious noises and chilling sights. Val Hawkins was impressive as Jan Sanderson, recovering from a nervous breakdown and brought to an isolated farmhouse owned by farmer George Willowby (Robert Hucklesby) in an apparent effort by her husband Greg (Gerry Carroll) to aid her recovery. Bethany Clough also impressed as Greg’s step-sister, Laura, coping particularly well with the difficulty of playing a hanging ‘dead body’ during the second act. The tension built well during the production, which was directed by Lyn Greene, an although the ladies were perhaps a little more convincing than their male counterparts the end result was well worth the undoubted burning of the midnight oil.
