Ringwood Musical & Dramatic Society Ringwood School Ringwood April 2003 There is much more to enjoy in this ambitious, energetic show, set in Deadrock, Nevada where banker Bobby Child falls in love with Polly Baker and arranges for his New York showgirl friends to come along to save her father’s theatre. The cast, as always with this company, is bright and sparkling, and although the stage is too small for big, spectacular dance numbers choreographer Jane Howell nonetheless achieves impressive results. And director Chrissie Peckham ensures that the show’s humour is well to the fore, with many moments to treasure. I particularly loved the hilarious ‘double act’ of lookalikes Bela Zangler (Tom Perren) and Bobby ‘Zangler’ Child (Andy Steeds) and the ‘terribly British’ Fodors (Richard Bennett & Val Garner), while Rachel Eales is suitably feisty as Polly Baker, although her accent is perhaps rather more Ringwood than Deadrock. Plenty of trouble has been taken with detail too, so the company-made costumes are a treat and props beautifully in period. Who could ask for anything more?
