ALI BABA AND THE 40 THIEVES
Ferndown Drama Group
Barrington Theatre
Ferndown
January 2003

AN INTERESTING CHOICE OF CASTING

A slightly weak opening - but the company persisted to keep going despite some first-night hiccups.
There was an interesting choice of casting but I particularly enjoyed watching Philip Redgrave as Professor Jones, a fantastic character actor bringing a little bit of humour to the stage.
Congratulations too to Paul Marcus (Ali Baba), Dawn Hollington (Rhum Baba), Gill Greaves (Olive Baba), Trish Binding (Polly Jones) and to all other members of the cast.
I also thought that David Palmer turned in a fine performance as the pantomine dame, Fatima Kebab, along with the very funny double act, Bubble and Squeak (Richard Harker and Chris Green).
At times, most members of the chorus looked as if they would rather be at home watching the television, but as mentioned in the pantomine, "You don't get acting like this in the soaps."
