MOMENTS IN TIME
BOS Musical Company
Regent Theatre
Christchurch
May/June 2002

IT’S refreshing to see a company that not only has a good number of young people among its ranks, but also allows them the chance to have their moment of glory. In this concert they seized the opportunity with both hands and the result was a well-balanced blend of youth and experience.
Although at times the pace tended to flag, there were indeed some memorable moments during two hours of – mainly – film and show music. Chorus singing was strong, with spirited renditions of such numbers as Cabaret, Can You Feel The Love Tonight and It’s A Grand Night For Singing.
I particularly enjoyed Joan Lea’s As If We Never Said Goodbye, Julie Mallon’s Think Of Me and Kimberley Cullum’s One Moment In Time. And Brian Oliver’s solo duet, which saw him singing The Chocolate Soldier’s My Hero with himself, complete with rapid hat changes, injected humour into the evening.
On the down side, a glitter curtain or perhaps a couple of plants would have made the stage look a little less bare, although the company certainly rang the changes with their numerous costume changes – the black and white of the final section was especially effective.
