The Last Bread Pudding
West Moors Drama Group
Memorial Hall
West Moors
June 2001

THIS group’s main aim is to give its audiences an enjoyable time, and they certainly did so with this one-act comedy by Nick Warburton, excellently directed by Elise Scott.
The action takes place at an amateur drama group’s committee meeting as they discuss their entry for a forthcoming festival. Pretentious ‘luvvies’ argue for deep, hidden meanings and symbolism - which the more down-to-earth dismiss as b******s - and nothing goes undiscussed, even down to a bread pudding which might be used by a character in the festival play. And, in a wonderful example of life imitating art, it soon becomes obvious that everyone’s behaviour at the meeting is unconsciously reflecting what is being said.
A strong cast - Mark Austin, Linda Campbell, Elise Scott, Claire Rundle, Ian Campbell, Shelagh Rundle and Rob Baker – really pulled out all the stops to create just the types of character that really do exist in theatrical circles.
The thoroughly enjoyable evening also included a ploughman’s supper (but no bread pudding) and a fun quiz in which the audience was invited to display its prowess (or in some cases total lack of) in answering questions on general knowledge, music and trivia.

Incidentally, on the subject of characters in theatrical circles, take a look at the article "Castaways" under the heading - Green Room. (ED)
