Did your group enter a Festival this year? If not, why not? It's a challenge - it keeps your members stimulated - and it's lots of fun. The Festival was the first round in the All-England Drama Awards, the Southern section also being held in Shaftesbury on the 21st of June. (see the Dorset Drama League pages on either the CONTACTS or the PRODUCTION pages). Lyn Richell, Chair of the DDL, is concerned about the future of the Dorset Drama Festival, and says that it is vital if the Festivals are to continue after this year that they have bumper paying audiences at Shaftesbury. She is appealing to all groups to come along and support the Festival, and groups that have entered teams to bring along lots of paying supporters. The League are short of funds and only have enough money in the bank to pay the venue. They have kept the team's entry fees as low as possible, but even so they do not cover adjudicator's expenses. They rely entirely on audience numbers to cover the deficit. Needless to say, they rely on all the groups in Dorset to spread the word, promote the Festival and come along to Shaftesbury in March in increasing numbers. Has your group entered a One-act play for the Festival? If not, why not? They can be a lot of fun. Unless more support from the Groups is forthcoming, you may not have the chance next year - and that would be shameful! |
