The Ferndown Festival
on-cue forward 28th April to 1st May 2004 - Adjudicator - Marie O'Sullivan
It was heartwarming to see that a local playwright, LES LITTLEWOOD'S original play
'A CONVERSATION OF SORTS'
was such an outstanding success at this Festival, winning for Les Littlewood and his LEONIC PLAYERS
The SAMPEY CUP (The top award for the overall winners)
The MURIEL POPE AWARD (for the best all-male group)
The DORMY PRODUCER'S CUP (for the best production)
and the APHRODITE TROPHY (the Adjudicator's choice)
THE BEST ACTOR AWARD went to JACK SNELL
who was in the above production.

The POKESDOWN AWARD (for the best Youth Group)
New Forest Players for A WOODLAND TALE
The WILLS ROSE BOWL (The award for Best Stage presentation)
New Forest Players for their production of 'Say Something Happened'
The MARTIN BELLCHAMBER AWARD (for the Best Teamwork)
The Broadway Electric Theatre Group (Youth) for 'Web of Deceit'
The TERRY ADAMS AWARD (awarded at the discretion of the Festival Committee)
for the person making the most valuable contribution to the Festival
went to MARIE O'SULLIVAN (the Adjudicator)
for all the extra work she incurred when two teams withdrew.

Our congratulations to all the above, in fact to all the groups and actors who took part. This was the 43rd year of the Ferndown Festival and the organising committee are to be congratulated on another successful event in spite of the fewer number of Groups taking part.
The Festival ended on one sobering note. Enid Rothwell and Edith Thornton, Hon. Treasurer and Hon. Secretary respectively and the main Organisers are both retiring after 20 years service. The hard work they have put in over the years in running this Festival is greatly appreciated. It is hoped that two volunteers from among the Amateur Drama fraternity can be found to keep this Festival running.
If your group does not already enter a Festival, persuade them to do so next year. It is a challenge. It keeps members stimulated and on their toes. Above all it's a lot of fun. RS
